Personal Intention: I would like to document my memories working with children from different stages in my life. Moreover, I would like to introduce the organizations I worked with to my friends.

Design Purpose: I would like to make a clean and welcoming website. I would like to tell people that learning how to make a website might not be as scary as they thought it would be.

Intended Audience: Children who want to learn how to make websites. Anyone who wants to learn how to make a website.

Our assignment is to make a resume and the first thing that came to my mind is that, I want to put the things I cherish the most to the top of my page. And the things I cherish the most are the different organizations that serve to provide resources for children. My initial thought was to put a lot of pictures of me and the kids throughout the page and use footsteps to connect those pictures to make a timeline.

What I like about my website is that I think it’s clean and easy to navigate. I also implemented a video of one of my favorite orchestra group and hearing their music from the background of my website makes me very happy. However, What I don’t like about my website is that there is not a lot of varieties in terms of user interactions and functionalities.

I have learned a lot about myself both on a personal and academic level. I learned that I tend to focus too much on small details and put less attention to the bigger picture. And the result is that, sometimes if the result of the small details I work on did not fit into the overall design of my website, I would erase that entire small details. What that means is that, I can spent hours on doing something that will not even appear on my website.

In terms of finding resources when facing difficulties, I tend to rely on Youtube at the very beginning of my progress. But what I realized is that sometimes there are too many ways in solving one problem and I get confused after listening to multiple videos. After realizing Youtube might not be the best way to solve my problem, I began to ask for help from my peers. And I think that is the most useful way! I also realized the importance of Slack. (I got useful feedback after posting my questions and also find similar questions posted on the channel)

For further development, I would really like to work on more features within Bootstrap and CSS. I would like to test out more features and put more interactions elements into my website.

Final Project:

As an educational technologist, I am interested in investigating how media, in the form of storytelling, videos, and images foster people’s empathy and critical thinking skill. My hope is to raise people’s compassion and civic engagement awareness by sharing the stories of the children in Chin-Ai Music. Chin-Ai Music is comprised of a group of aboriginal children (mostly Seediq and Atayal) in Nantou. I became interested in this string orchestra group since college and have always been amazed by the strength and the resilience of those children.

I would like my audience to interact with this piece by hearing and visualizing the individual stories of the children in the orchestra group. I would like the audience to feel the power of those children, and also reflect on the positionalities between them and the children. Ultimately, I hope audience can further reflect on the world they live in and take actions in creating a more equitable, friendly, and peaceful environment.

Technically, I think these are the steps needed to test my concept: I need to revisit W3school, FreeCode Camp, and Youtube Online Tutorial. I have researched into a few similar projects, such as The Reporter, WITHIN, KID’S BOOKHOUSE, A Girl Can Dream, Hollow, National Film Board of Canada, Rebuilding Haiti, The Guardian: World War I, and Small Media - Women in the Middle East.

Heading

I want to catch people's attention once they clicked into my website.

So I chose to embed a video at my home page. I hope the video will provide a background information

for my audience. My intention is to make people become interested in the two organizations I really love.

Interaction:

I really want to input a lot of interaction element in my website. So I ended up included the story section at the end of my website.

In the story section, there is an image and audio section.

I hope in the future, I can gather more personal stories from the

children and their voices could be heard.

Image/Video

This section aims to show the different representations of the kids in both non-profit organizations.

I hope the viewers get to see the characteristics of the children, which are brave, resilience, and confident.

I chose to put an crayon affect to most of my pictures because I hope to convey a sense of simplicity and loving.

The entire design process is very rewarding and it is also a journey of self-discovery.
I initially want to introduce the two nonprofit organizations and I did that.
However, it is not until the later state of my design that I decided to include a section where I could gather interview data from he children and put those data into my website.
I hope in the future I will get the chance to directly interact with the kids and also teach them how to code so we can create the website together.
